Minie Ramasamy

Minie is a native born Malaysian with Indian ancestry. In 1987, she moved from her native home to Norway, unknowing that it is here her spiritual and creative awakening would flourish. This would also fuel her curiosity to travel and experience other cultures and beliefs, in countries like Bhutan, India, South America and Australia.

Minie has a BA in English Studies and Science of Religion, teaching in Secondary schools and private institutions. In 1989 she established her own health and coaching company, running courses in stress management and qigong.

Since her debut as an artist, Minie has held exhibitions in Kuala Lumpur and Norway. The last two years she has been producing greeting and Christmas cards for local florist and shops.

Today, Minie and her husband live in Sætre, Asker along the Oslo fjord.

ARTIST STATEMENT

My creative journey began in 2015, when my husband and I were stationed in South Korea. With him working, I was left with the luxury of freedom and time, which I knew was a great opportunity to cultivate my inner self and talents. Creativity, art and spirituality were high on my list.

MY COLOR PALETTE - A BLEND OF EAST & WEST

The way I listen to colors comes firstly, from growing up in exotic Malaysia, where the senses can be bombarded in spectrums of unimaginable hues, light, sounds, smells and not in the least the heat. I believe this has influenced me both consciously and unconsciously in my personal color palettes, and at times breaking the rules of the standard color chart.

My inspiration for motifs and themes are nature based - animals, birds, trees, flowers and women either whimsical, figurative or impressionistic. As mentioned earlier, I enjoy experimenting with various mediums from oils, acrylics, watercolors, digital and mixed media, which can be seen from my present artwork.
